IFK World Seminar / 5th Kata IFK World Championship Report

IFK Canada Team had the privilege to participate

in the IFK World Seminar / 5th Kata IFK World Championship 2019, organized by the organizing committee of the IFK Netherlands.

This IFK international event was held at the Athletic Sports Center of Papendal, Arnhem, Netherlands, from Wednesday, April 24 to Saturday, April 27, 2019. This very rewarding opportunity brought together more than 28 countries around the world for the seminar and 22 countries represented at the world championship.

It is great to see the enthusiasm expressed by all the participants who came to benefit from the extraordinary teaching of Shihan David Pickthall 7th dan , IFK Vice President, Shihan Eddy Gabathuler 7th dan, CR IFK Switzerland, Shihan Janine Davies 6th dan, Head of the IFK kata committee and Shihan Alexey Gorokhov 5th dan, head of the kumite committee IFK Russia.

During our stay on the Dutch soil, we had a 3-day seminar with a well-defined schedule with 3 training per day. This occasion aimed to perfect our martial knowledge on the aspects of – kumite – kata – kihon – mechanics of the body – as well as some other areas. Everything was supervised according to the teachers mentioned above. Based on your interests, we could choose our classes to revise, improve and work on very intricate details. The atmosphere was amazing. Being gathered with more than 28 countries around the world, practicing the same art with few technical differences, has contributed to achieving the goal of getting closer to the perfection of what we love most – Kyokushin.

At the end of the day, everyone had the pleasure of meeting at the hotel bar to exchange and socialize to continue to maintain and build our friendships. The period of the international seminar ended with a Sayonara Party – ORANGE concept, of course.

The last day was held with the IFK World Championship kata championship. The preparations were at the height of the event that began by presenting the delegations of all the participating countries. The referees had their training, supervised by Shihan Janine Davies, to set the rules and ensure major points to be assessed during the performance of the participants.

It should be noted that there were more than 100 participants at the 5th IFK kata world championship. The IFK Canada delegation was represented by Sensei Steve Fogarasi (coach and country representative), Senseï Jonathan C. Hémond (seminar and competitor), Natália Aragao (seminar), Kyla, Connor and Quinlan Van (seminar and competitors). It is worth to mention that IFK Canada had the youngest team with Connor being the youngest in the boys juniors division at age 12 and Kayla the 2nd youngest girls juniors division at age 14. Also Quinlan was the youngest participant at the seminar at age 10 only.

Senseï Jonathan C. Hémond ranked 32nd, Kyla place 12 and Connor ranked in the top 16! Congratulations to our young Canadian team. The performance of the Russians and Swiss was remarkable. The kata were performed with rhythm, precision, intensity, power and incredible synchronicity.

IFK Canada would like to warmly thank the entire team of IFK Netherlands for the great work organizing this world event.
