The House of Champions… An inspiring Story

My name is Nathalie Jiménez, I am 27 years old.

I have been practicing Karate for 7 years, and have been a part of Kyokushinkai Costa Rica for the last 3 years.

In August of last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This has been without a doubt the most unexpected and shocking news I have ever had. I have lived through very difficult moments and sometimes very painful ones. I feel my last few years have definitely prepared me for this fight.

The courage that gave me Kyokushinkai was definitely not a coincidence. This years of training have taught me to fight against my worst demons. I learned through Kyokushin that we can always strive for more, that pain is only temporary, that limits are only in our heads and that this is the fight that most times makes us lose…that if I have a great team with me I can win any battle…and that the support of those by my side will always give me more strength to continue.

I learned to have a closer connection with myself and my body. I learned that it is ok to be afraid but I must always stare at that fear directly to its face. I got to understand that all my fights in the tournaments were preparing me for the most important fight, which is the one I am in now.

Kyokushinkai has taught me a lot about bravery, but especially to persevere and never give up.

Three weeks ago I finished my treatment and I am a few days away from my surgery. Today I can say that although I have passed through the darkest days of my life, my smile and my will to go forward have never gone away.
Many ask me how I have been able to keep such a positive attitude, but I simply believe it is thanks to all that led me to be who I am today.
Soon I will be able to train again and that is one of my biggest motivations.
