KWU News: Women under 50 kg will fight in their own category

By the decision of the executive committee of Kyokushin World Union – KWU

the 15th official weight category was added!

Female fighters

Female fighters of the lightest weight (under 50 kg) will now fight in their own category. The decision was made in connection with the reasonable requests of the national representatives.

It is designed to expand the women’s division and reduce amount of injuries. From the moment of making this decision, all calendar events should include this category.

This requirement also applies to national qualifying tournaments for the 3rd KWU Kyokushin World Championship among men and women in weight categories, which will be held in November 2017 in Tokyo.

The official list of KWU weight categories:

Women: -50 kg, -55 kg, -60 kg, -65 kg, -70 kg, +70 kg.
Men: -60 kg, -65 kg, -70 kg, -75 kg, -80 kg, -85 kg, -90 kg, -95 kg, +95 kg.
