K-1 icon speaks about SENSHI’s mission in an interview with one of the biggest Dutch media outlets – Vechtsport Info
Semmy Schilt is one of the greatest Dutch kickboxers in history. Known as “Hightower,” he dominated for years in K-1. With four K-1 World Grand Prix titles to his name, he has secured his place in history as a living legend.
After the end of his impressive career, Schilt did not choose rest but a new role. He runs his own gym in the Netherlands – The Fight Game Academy, where he teaches and trains new generations of fighters. He also travels the world to conduct seminars and presentations, sharing his experience not only with fighters but also with young entrepreneurs.
In an interview for one of the largest Dutch sports media outlets, Vechtsport Info, just days before returning to Bulgaria to take part in the new edition of SENSHI – SENSHI 28 Grand Prix, Schilt says that he chooses to be part of SENSHI because the organization, for him, is much more than just business.
Today, Schilt is the president of KWU SENSHI Europe. In this role, he supports Executive Director and Matchmaker Andriyan Dimitrov and helps the organization connect with other promoters. According to Schilt, SENSHI is built on values that are often missing in big organizations.
“It’s not just about business,” he explains. “It’s about respect, discipline, and tradition. That’s what makes SENSHI different.”
He emphasizes that SENSHI does not impose long-term contracts on athletes, giving them the freedom to develop on an international level. According to him, many Glory fighters were first noticed by scouts during SENSHI training camps and events.
SENSHI’s training camps can change lives, says the combat sports legend. These camps bring together various martial arts styles, including Kyokushin karate, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and MMA.
“The energy is incredible,” Schilt says. “For young fighters, these camps can truly be life-changing.” During SENSHI 28 in Varna, Bulgaria, from September 11 to 14, another large martial arts training camp will be held, followed by a spectacular Grand Prix tournament with eight fighters. Tickets for Bulgaria’s first-ever heavyweight Grand Prix, organized by SENSHI, are available at Eventim.bg.
According to Schilt, the SENSHI 28 Grand Prix will deliver an exceptionally strong fight card for the demanding fight sports audience. He highlights Albanian fighter Francesco Xhaja as one of the most entertaining heavyweights, known for his spectacular fighting style.
Schilt also points out the rematch between Marian Lapusneanu and Dragomir Petrov as a must-see clash among the evening’s super fights. In their first bout, Lapusneanu had little time to prepare, but this time the situation is different, and Schilt is curious to see how Petrov will adapt.
The upcoming Grand Prix tournament will also feature two Dutch fighters. One of them is Thomas Bridgewater, brother and sparring partner of kickboxing star Levi Rigters. According to Schilt, Thomas can achieve great results thanks to his technique and physical preparation.
Joining the tournament as well is the giant Dexter Suisse, standing two meters tall and weighing 120 kilograms. He will compete in the reserve fight, but Schilt believes he could be dangerous for any opponent.
“Three fights in one night. One punch can change everything and become decisive. That’s what makes it so exciting,” the former champion comments.
