On September 13, the beach at the resort complex “St. St. Constantine and Helena” near Varna, Bulgaria, will once again turn into an arena of spectacular battles. That is when SENSHI 28 will take place, marking the beginning of an entirely new format for the promotion – the SENSHI Grand Prix. For the first time in the organization’s history, fans will witness a single-elimination tournament in the heavyweight division, promising high tension and unpredictable twists all the way up to the final. A feature by the combat sports media Boec.bg reveals more details about one of the contenders for the title.
Among the participants in this new format is Bruno Chaves from Brazil – a fighter with an impressive resume who has already proven himself in the SENSHI ring. The 33-year-old competitor stands 198 cm tall and weighs 128 kg. He holds the title of Brazilian heavyweight kickboxing champion, as well as the trophy from the Alpha Fight Series Australia vs World. At SENSHI, he already boasts two fights and two victories, the most recent at SENSHI 24.
Chaves began his martial arts journey back in 1999, training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His father, a capoeira master, black belt in jiu-jitsu, and former MMA fighter, has always been Bruno’s biggest inspiration. Today, the Brazilian fighter is proud to compete on some of the world’s biggest combat sports stages – SENSHI among them.
His preparation includes two to three training sessions per day – one heavy, one medium-intensity, and one lighter. His favorite part is strength and conditioning along with sparring, because they best simulate the real conditions of a fight. Before stepping into the ring, Chaves likes to relax, visualize the match, and feel gratitude for being able to do what he loves.
Throughout his career, he has faced tough opponents, and he names Iranian fighter Iraj Azizpour as his most challenging rival. His strength, he says, comes from his family – from the example of his father and from the sacrifices he saw his mother make without ever giving up. “Life is not a rainbow – if you want something big, you have to make big sacrifices,” the Brazilian remarks.
Besides being a fighter, Chaves has also been a professional basketball player, is a black belt in jiu-jitsu, and is a capoeirista. Outside of sports, he is a man with a sense of humor who openly admits he enjoys the love of his fans: “I hope you like me, I’m a cool guy, even though I hit other guys (laughs).”
For the SENSHI Grand Prix, Bruno Chaves enters with tremendous motivation, confidence, and peace in his heart. He expects a fast and powerful fight, where he plans to demonstrate endurance, heavy strikes, and composure. “Knockout – that’s my expectation, and in my favor,” he says firmly. His message to the fans is clear – don’t miss the show, because in Bulgaria they will witness one of his greatest performances. Tickets for the combat event of the year are available through Eventim.bg.
